A 1-1 draw and a fantastic performance from England Veterans’ Over 60’s against Huntingdonshire Over 50’s in Cambridgeshire on Sunday 7th December.
England were unfortunately hit with injuries and late withdrawals, leaving the side with very few natural front players – they set up in a new formation and matched the younger Hunts team in every department.
On a wet but perfect grass surface, the game was played at a frenetic pace. Hunts took the lead with a magnificent 30 yard volley from ex professional Ben Sedgemore who hammered the ball into the turf and it rocketed into the net.
Just before half time a goal bound shot was handled on the line and England Player/Manager Andy Cranch drove home to make it 1-1 by half time.
The second half was goalless but England looked more likely to find the winner, creating plenty of good chances.
The game ended in a honourable draw with some fine individual performances. Well done boys.
Our thanks to the match officials and to the Fitzwilliam College for hosting the match.
