A 1-1 draw for England Veterans’ Over 60’s against old adversaries Wales on Saturday 11th October in Cardiff.

Wales had more possession in the early stages but it was England who opened the scoring – a Garry Bruce free-kick from the left was headed home by defender Gwynne Berry on 22 minutes. Wales bounced back and a Paul Averies header from a corner rebounded from the crossbar and England keeper John Walker pulled off a point blank save in the scramble that followed.

England’s Glen Alzapiedi had a shot well saved on the half hour but 6 minutes later Wales scored the equaliser – a shot from Mark Walker from just outside the box glanced off defender Nigel Pruden’s foot and found the far corner. 1-1 at half time.

The second half was goalless. Wales had a lot of possession but were limited to set plays and scrambles in the box. England looked to counter attack and Alzapiedi’s pace caused problems for the Welsh defence but they couldn’t muster a goal. England had a shout for a penalty turned down when Bruce was wiped out in the box.

The draw means Wales retain the Frank Terrell cup. Congratulations.

Gwynne Berry was awarded Man of the Match for England and Keith Williams for Wales.

Our thanks to the match officials and to the Ocean Park Arena for hosting the game.

This was the last game in charge for England Veterans’ Over 60’s management duo, David Lazell and Nigel Rutter. Thank you for your dedication and service over the last three and a half years and good luck to incoming Manager Andy Cranch.
