A subdued start for England Veterans’ Over 55’s in the Four Nations Tournament in Hertfordshire on Friday 5th September.

England could only manage a 1-1 draw with hosts Maccabi on the first day of the tournament in a game they should have won.

England started strongly and pinned Maccabi back but didn’t take advantage of the few half chances they created. 0-0 at half time.

In the second half, Maccabi took the lead from a corner – it wasn’t cleared and the hosts poked home on the goal line.

England stepped up the pressure and created wave after wave of chances before Jon Quinn finally poached the equaliser.

With 10 minutes remaining, Maccabi had a one on one with the keeper but the forward unluckily scuffed his shot. In the final minutes England had more chances to secure the victory but it ended 1-1.

Wales beat Northern Ireland 5-1 in the other game.

On Saturday 6th, England play Wales and Maccabi play Northern Ireland. Both games kick off at 1.15pm.

Good luck boys.
