A fabulous day and a 5-0 victory for the mixed aged England Veterans as they took on the younger Wandering Crows charity team on Sunday 31st August.
England started very brightly, creating plenty of chances and it wasn’t long before Ricki Finning scored, knocking in the rebound after his initial shot was saved.
Just before half time, Karl Duguid ran into the box and slotted home putting England two up at the break.
Early in the second half, Alun Wood scored his customary goal to make it three and England had ample chances to extend the lead but it wasn’t until late in the game that Stacey Dawes hit one from the edge of the box to make it four. In the final minutes Steve Thompson added a fifth without reply.
A great day out for all and a big shout out to ex Exeter City keeper Jason Matthews on a clean sheet on his England debut.
Our thanks to the match officials and to Aveley Football Club for use of their excellent facilities.
And thanks to the Wandering Crows for a very competitive game and for raising money for so many local charities – thank you everyone for your generosity.
