Day 2 of the 2025 70 Plus World Cup in Japan and things look promising for England Veterans’ Over 70’s and Over 75’s.
The Over 70’s secured a 1-0 victory over Japanese side Kizuna in their first game and drew 0-0 against Taiwan in their second. So far, four clean sheets but the challenge has been converting goal scoring opportunities. They have one more decisive group game tomorrow morning.
The Over 75’s beat Taiwan 5-1 in their first game and Golden State (USA) 4-0 in their final group game. The 75’s have finished second in Group A and now progress to the semi finals where they will meet reigning champions Wales, unbeaten winners of Group B. Germany, unbeaten winners of Group A will play Tokyo (Japan) in the other semi final.
Tomorrow, on the final day, the Over 70’s play their last group game against West Japan in the morning which will decide whether they have done enough to qualify for the final or the third and fourth place play-off in the afternoon. England and West Japan are both currently on 6 points but Japan have a plus four better goal difference. There are no semi finals in the 70’s competition.
The Over 75’s will play their semi final in the morning and then either the final or third and fourth place play-off in the afternoon.
Come on England!
