A disappointing 4-1 defeat for England Veterans’ Over 60’s against a very well organised Republic of Ireland Over 55’s on Sunday 30th November in Leicestershire.

England started well enough but after 15 minutes ROI scored an absolute belter of a goal with a sweet strike hitting the back of the net.

England had a good chance to equalise where a cross might have been a better option than a shot but it still required a good save from the Irish keeper.

The England defence then gave the ball away and a fabulous chip over the keeper left England two down. Straight from the kick they lost possession again and it was three.

England almost pulled one back – a great shot from Glen Alzapiedi was tipped over the bar just before half time.

England went a bit more direct in the second half and had three decent chances before another individual defensive error left the Irish striker one on one with the keeper to make it 4-0.

England had the lion share of the play for the rest of the game creating plenty of chances without success and late on in the game Graham Pearce headed home a consolation goal.

Congratulations to Republic of Ireland who were clinical and fully deserved the win.

Our thanks to the match officials and to Kirby Muxloe Football Club for hosting the game.
