England Veterans’ Over 55s suffered a disappointing 3–0 defeat against a strong Droitwich Spa Veterans’ side on Sunday 22nd February in Worcestershire.

Managers John Price and Darren Steadman took the opportunity to assess seven trialists under match conditions.

In the first half, Stafford Browne came closest for England with a well-directed header that was smartly saved. And at the other end, Mark Bedford was called into action to make an important stop and keep the scores level.

However, Droitwich managed to take the lead just before the interval with a deflected effort from the edge of the box, giving them a 1–0 advantage at half-time.

England reshaped and made several personnel changes in the second half, which led to a sustained spell of pressure, but they were unable to find a breakthrough. Droitwich then doubled their lead with a fine solo effort before capitalising on a late slip by an England defender to add a third goal in the final minute.

The result was a deserved victory for Droitwich, while the match provided a useful exercise for the England management team as they continue to evaluate recommended players from across the country.

England’s Man of the Match was awarded to goalkeeper Mark Bedford for a series of fine saves throughout the game.

Our thanks to the match officials and to Kidderminster Harriers for hosting the game.
