A 2-1 victory for England Veterans’ Over 65’s against last season’s Over 60s National Cup winners Oxfordshire in Buckinghamshire on Thursday 19th March.
England started very strongly and took the lead on 13 minutes – a 25 yard free kick from Alan Collett flew into the net.
England dominated possession and should have increased their lead but it was Oxfordshire’s Phil Heggie who hit the bar from a similar free kick. 1-0 to England at half time but it should have been more.
After about 60 minutes, England finally went two up when Pete Coffill chipped Oxfordshire and former England Over 65’s keeper Brian Kirk from 20 yards with the ball going in off the post.
The younger legs of Oxfordshire started to get on top and with 5 minutes left Sabri Veselli chipped England keeper Gary Corby to reduce the deficit despite strong claims for offside.
Our thanks to the match officials and to Beaconsfield Town Football Club for use of their excellent facilities.
