A 3-2 victory for England Veterans’ Over 60’s on Sunday 17th May against Whitstable Over 60’s in Kent.

The teams were playing for the Whitstable Town Remembrance Cup, created to commemorate those connected with the club and to support charities nominated in memory of loved ones.

England start brightly but missed serval good chances before Richard Brannam kept his cool in the box and drove his shot under the keeper to give England the lead after 20 minutes. Just just before half time England’s Martin Thorpe made it 2-0 to the visitors.

In the second half, England should have extended their lead but the Whitstable keeper made save after save and was rightly awarded Man of the Match.

England got sloppy and conceded a goal and Whitstable pushed forward and quickly equalised from a corner to make it 2-2.

England continued to create opportunities but couldn’t beat the keeper who also saved a Glen Alzapiedi penalty.

Late in the game, Andy Cranch broke into the box and fired home from a tight angle to give England the win.

Our thanks to the match officials and to Whitstable Town Football Club for their super hospitality.

Over 200 people watched the game and here’s hoping lots of money was raised for the chosen charities.

England Veterans are already looking forward to coming back next year to defend the Cup.
