A deserved 3-0 victory for England Veterans’ Over 55’s against Maccabi Over 55’s on Sunday 7th June in Hertfordshire.
From the opening whistle, England controlled possession and created a succession of chances but were unable to find the breakthrough, going in at the interval still locked at 0–0.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with England applying relentless pressure without early success. The breakthrough finally arrived when David Gipp reacted sharply to give England the lead their performance deserved.
They doubled their advantage when a dangerous attack resulted in an own goal and then completed the scoring when Mike Tomlinson applied the finishing touch to another well-worked move, capping an excellent team performance.
Our thanks to the match officials and to the Hatfield Sports Complex for hosting the match.
Attention now turns to one of the highlights of the England Veterans’ Over 55’s calendar as they prepare to face the veterans of Real Madrid in a prestigious international fixture on 21st June.
