A narrow 3-2 victory for England Veterans’ Over 70’s against Silver Foxes (Sheffield) Over 65’s on Wednesday 29th July in Leicestershire.
Silver Foxes took the lead after an under-hit back pass was seized on by Harry Strutt, who finished past the goalkeeper.
The Foxes doubled their advantage when a long ball down the line released the winger, who crossed for a near-post finish.
England began to take control in the second half, with Roger Steer and Peter Stacey influential in midfield. England pulled one back when Bill Darton ran onto a through ball and calmly placed his finish past the goalkeeper. Ken Hitchell then made two fine saves to prevent the Silver Foxes from extending their lead.
England soon equalised. They won the ball in midfield, released David York, who steadied himself and placed his shot into the net.
The winner came when Steve Mole received the ball on the edge of the box, turned his marker and guided his finish just inside the post.
Thanks are extended to the match officials and to Lutterworth FC for hosting the match.
