A great day of senior veterans’ football, with all six England Veterans’ teams on show at Kirby Muxloe Football Club on Sunday 9th August in Leicestershire.
The games raised the curtain on the 2026/27 season and we were delighted to welcome Paul Reaney from Molten – the official match ball supplier for English Veterans Football Club.
First up were the Over 50’s versus the Over 55’s which finished in a 1-1 draw. Before the game there was a minutes silence in remembrance of Gordon Stafford, father of 50’s keeper Paul. Rest in Peace Gordon.
The 50’s took the lead through Ricki Finning and were still one to the good at half time. The 55’s were awarded a penalty but Stafford Browne’s shot was well saved by keeper Paul Stafford. 10 minutes later Tony Speight notched the equaliser and the spoils were shared.
The next game was between the Over 60’s and the Over 65’s with the 60’s winning 2-1. Adie Harris scored an early opener for the 60’s and they still led at half time. Iain Mackie then produced the equaliser before Ada Topley nicked it for the 60’s.
The final game was between the Over 70’s and Over 75’s which the 70’s won 3-0. The 70’s hit the post with a penalty before taking a 2-0 lead into half time. The goals came from Terry Prickett and two from Eamonn Whelan.
Our thanks to the match officials, Mark Poulton, Rahi Popat and Mark Pickering. And thank you to Kirby Muxloe Football Club for hosting and use of their excellent facilities.
