A 2-2 draw for England Veterans’ Over 55’s against a decent Ascot United Over 45’s side on Friday 21st August in Berkshire.
England defended well, with Darren Steadman making a couple of good saves to keep the scores level at the break.
Ascot took the lead early in the second half from a corner, but England responded. A Robin Cousins free kick was parried by the Ascot goalkeeper, and Alun Wood was on hand to convert the rebound and make it 1–1.
A mistake at the back then allowed Ascot to restore their lead, but England refused to give up. With just five minutes remaining, Wood struck again to earn England a deserved 2–2 draw.
A useful and competitive game, and good preparation ahead of the upcoming Six Nations tournament.
Our thanks to the match officials and to Ascot United Football Club for use of their facilities.
