Honours even in the 0-0 draw between England Veterans’ Over 70’s and England Veterans Over 65’s ‘A’ team on Tuesday 15th September in Leicestershire.
With several new faces in the squad, the Over 65’s ‘A’ enjoyed more possession but the well organised Over 70’s defended resolutely and keeper Brian Kirk made a number of important saves.
In the second half, John Gridley’s long range effort for the Over 65’s crashed against the upright and Kevin Bovington shot just wide from close range. The 70’s also created chances – John Todd poked his shot just wide and Bill Darton narrowly missed the target after racing onto a through ball. Martin Morley also shot wide after advancing to the edge of the box.
There was also late drama when Steve Edkins went down in the box only for the 65’s appeals to be waved away.
Our thanks to the match officials and to Lutterworth Athletic Football Club for use of their excellent facilities.
