A narrow 4-3 victory for England Veterans’ Over 60’s against a very strong Wiltshire Over 55’s representative side on Sunday 25th October in Chippenham.

With the wind and sun against them in the first half, England found themselves two down within 20 minutes.

They dug in and their hard work was rewarded just before half time when a Tony Wright cross was tucked away by Martin Thorpe to make it 2-1 at the break.

England had the elements in their favour in the second half and it wasn’t long before Micheal Hart equalised. England went 3-2 up when a long ball saw Thorpe round the keeper to score his second.

With 5 minutes to go, England gifted Wiltshire an equaliser after an errant short goal kick and it looked like honours would be shared.

But Thorpe secured his hat trick and an England victory with a fine header in the dying minutes from a curling Andy Cranch cross.

The victory extends the Over 60’s unbeaten run to 18 games with 13 consecutive victories.

Our thanks to the match officials and the Stanley Park Football Centre for use of their facilities.
