On a bitterly cold day and on an immaculate pitch at Cambridge University, England welcomed back four players returning from long term injuries.
Both sides struggled to create chances but just before half time England gave an easy ball away and the Cambridgeshire striker rifled home to make it 1-0 at half time.
England picked up the pace in the second half and had opportunities to score but just couldn’t muster a goal. As they pushed for an equaliser, Cambridgeshire caught them on the break to make it 2-0.
With 15 minutes left, England Veterans pushed forward and the game became more open – England deserved a goal but Cambridgeshire also had chances but couldn’t add to their score.
Overall, a very good performance from the Over 60’s against a decent younger team.
Our thanks to the match officials and to the Fitzwilliam College for use of their excellent facilities.
