A 7-3 defeat for England Veterans’ Over 50’s against the Cheshire Veterans League’s Over 45’s representative team on Sunday 22nd March in Ellesmere Port.
England started well and took the game to a strong and younger side taking an early lead through local boy, Kevin Leech.
England had opportunities to increase their lead but Cheshire equalised with probably their first chance.
England continued to dominate and created numerous chances, only to go behind twice. But they bounced back – Kerry Giddings scored the first equaliser and Leech the second. 3-3 at half time.
The second half started even but Cheshire’s youth and speed started to wear England down. They scored four without reply which was a bit flattering but England were beaten by a stronger, fitter and younger side. Well done Cheshire.
Kevin Leech was nominated as England’s Man of the Match.
Our thanks to the match officials and to Vauxhall Motors Football Club for hosting the game.
