England win the Over 60’s Condado Cup in Spain.
A win on penalties in the final of the inaugural Over 60’s Condado Cup secured the trophy for England Veterans Over 65’s on Sunday 7th June in Spain.
England drew 0-0 in the final against Internationale Cartagena but then triumphed 4-2 in the penalty shoot out. Jeff Short, Bill Stewart, Ian Urquhart and Russell Lane scored the four vital spot kicks. Paul Mitchell was due to take the fifth but wasn’t needed.
England were deserved winners having the lions share of possession but finding the Cartagena goalkeeper in fine form. At the other end, England keeper Gary Corby pulled off one excellent save to keep the game goalless.
Our thanks to the match officials and to tournament organiser Neil Andrews for a fabulous weekend of football.
Our thanks also to the wives and girlfriends for their unwavering support.
