A 2-0 defeat for England Veterans’ Over 70’s against Denmark in Copenhagen on Tuesday 13th October.
Denmark fielded a very strong team which contained five players who had played in the Danish First Division.
The game was mainly played in the Danish half and England created numerous chances but couldn’t find the net.
Denmark moved the ball quickly and looked to feed their fast forwards on the counter attack. They took the lead in the 14th minute when a Danish player beat two opponents before placing the ball beyond keeper Brian Kirk.
England continued to dominate possession but their efforts were either wide or saved by the goalkeeper – one particularly good attempt from Roger Steer was pushed wide at full stretch.
The second half followed a similar pattern. England came close to equalising when captain Steer volleyed against the post, with the ball travelling across the goal and out for a corner.
Denmark sealed the victory in the 80th minute when their forward outpaced the English defence to score.
Our thanks to the match officials and to Denmark for their excellent hospitality.
