On a glorious evening in the English Riviera, England Veterans triumphed 5-0 against a Devon veterans representative side on Friday 10th October.
Martin Thorpe put England one up within 10 minutes and Alun Wood slotted home to make it two, 5 minutes later.
Just before half time, former Torquay player and England Veterans skipper Garry Nelson fired in a corner which was headed home by Wood to make it 3-0 by half time.
The hosts created some good chances and only great goalkeeping from Darren Steadman prevented Devon from reducing the deficit.
England’s Martin Thorpe headed home David Gipp’s cross to make it four and in the last minutes Mark Saggers’ long range shot was parried by the keeper and Gipp netted the rebound.
Our thanks to the match officials and to the Devon County FA for a competitive game and for hosting at their wonderful headquarters in Newton Abbot.
The game helped raise funds for the Torquay Community Sports Trust.
