A comprehensive 8-1 victory for England Veterans’ Over 60’s against last season’s Over 60’s National Champions, East Sussex on Sunday 16th August.
Both teams started well and England’s John Walker had to make two excellent saves to keep the score at 0-0.
After 20 minutes, England took the lead through Jeff Hamlet and Andy Cranch added a second. East Sussex pulled one back just before half time.
England flew out the blocks in the second half – Adie Harris added a third, Martin Thorpe scored a fourth when his run and shot nestled in the back of the net and Glen Alazapidi added a fifth. Debutant, Gary Green got gifted the ball inside the box to make it six and Richard Brannam made it seven. Martin Thorpe neatly rounded the keeper to score his second and England’s eighth.
Fair play to East Sussex. They never gave up and at times made England work hard for their win.
Our thanks to the match officials and to Bexhill College for use of their facilities.
