A 5-0 victory for England Veterans’ Over 60’s A’ team against the Republic of Ireland on Saturday 20th June in Leicestershire.

Ireland came out the blocks very quickly and for the first ten or fifteen minutes they dominated the game.

England slowly got their act together and a shot by Gideon Umukoro was cruelly deflected into his own net by an Ireland player. Umukoro then made it 2-0, firing home after a great move that involved four players.

Dean Smart added a third with a superb header from an Andy Cranch free kick and it stayed 3-0 until 20 minutes to go.

Simon Mason added a fourth, shooting home following a corner and Anthony Harvey made it five. A good win for England Veterans after a difficult start.

Our thanks to the match officials and to Kirby Muxloe Football Club for use of their facilities.
