Seven goals without reply for England Veterans’ Over 65’s against Buckinghamshire Over 60’s on Wednesday 29th October in Marlow.

England took the lead after 18 minutes through Kenny Carlisle and 7 minutes later John Powell rounded the keeper and fired home to make it two. Bucks threatened on the break but it was still 2-0 at half time.

England made it three just 6 minutes into the second half – a Peter Coffill shot from outside the box was tipped onto the bar by Bucks keeper Don Bradley but it unfortunately hit him on the back and dropped over the line.

John Powell added the fourth when his 65th minute shot from outside the box found the corner of the net and 5 minutes later it was five – Kevin Mooney’s corner was met by Jeff Short whose header was tipped onto the bar and Powell was on hand to complete his hat trick.

In the last 15 minutes, Trevor George made it six, putting away a hopeful ball into the penalty area and Trevor Miall completed the rout after England worked the ball into the box.

Buckinghamshire never gave up and nearly got a consolation goal at the death – a run and shot from Russell Lane was tipped over by England keeper Gary Corby.

Our thanks to the match officials and to Redgrave Sports Centre for hosting the game. And to the local school children who were out supporting in force and very vocal!
