England v Wales

England win the 2026 Four Nations Tournamant.

England win the 2026 Four Nations Tournament.

A 2-1 victory for England against Wales was more than enough to lift the Over 60’s Four Nations trophy on Sunday 22nd March in San Javier, Spain.

Northern Ireland could only draw 1-1 with Denmark in the early game so England knew they only needed a draw to win the tournament. Wales needed to win by four clear goals to snatch the title.

Before the game there was a minutes silence for Stuart Saggers, brother of Over 55’s player Mark. Rest in Peace Stuart.

England started brightly and Glen Alzapiedi rattled the Wales’ crossbar from a free kick. He did the same 10 minutes later with a shot from outside the box. Wales had a fair share of possession but didn’t really threaten. 0-0 at half time.

England took the lead 10 minutes into the second half – Alzapiedi was fouled in the box and picked himself up to score from the spot. England added a crucial second just 10 minutes later when Adi Harris slotted home from just inside the box. Martin Thorpe should have added a third but his side foot shot hit the underside of the bar.

Wales had a mountain to climb but they pulled one back which made for a nervy last 10 minutes.

Our thanks to the match officials and to Denmark who were our hosts for the weekend. Thanks also to the tournament organisers on the ground in Spain.

A great advert for senior veterans football.
