An emphatic 9-0 victory for England Veterans’ Over 60’s against Lewes Town Veterans on Sunday 1st March in East Sussex.
England took early control of the game but found it hard to score until a Tony Wright cross caught out the Lewes keeper and the ball went in the top corner. Ade Topley made it two and just before half time Wright got his second to make it 3-0 at half time.
England started the second half where they left off and the goals came quickly – Wright added two more to take his tally to four and Topley scored twice more for a hat trick on his first start. Debutant Michael Hart got the other two.
Well done to all the Lewes’ players who never stopped working.
Our thanks to the match officials and to Newhaven Football Club for hosting the game.
Congratulations to goalkeeper John Walker who was awarded his England Veterans’ representative Cap, commemorating 5 international appearances for the Over 60’s.
