A 2-0 victory for England Veterans’ Over 55’s against a very strong and determined Lincolnshire Over 50’s on Sunday 18th October in Brigg.

Lincolnshire started strongly and threatened to take the lead when a one and one brought a good save from Darren Steadman.

England broke the deadlock with a break down the right and Dominic Wing’s cross allowed Alun Wood to finish from eight yards.

A second followed when a ball in from the right by Steve Ward was tapped home by Ray Thorpe.

Injuries to England’s centre forwards early in the second half caused a reshuffle and the opportunity for Lincolnshire to pile on the pressure. Two outstanding saves by Steadman kept the score at 2-0.

A late effort from Ricky Cornish almost added to England’s advantage and brought a good save from Lincolnshire keeper Paul Stafford.

Our thanks to the match officials and to Brigg Town Football Club for their hospitality.
