A disappointing 3-0 defeat for England Veterans’ Over 65’s in the final Tri Nations game against Northern Ireland in Belfast on Friday 8th May.

Northern Ireland were the better side and took a first half lead when a cross cum shot was saved by England keeper Gary Corby but the ball trickled over the line.

In the second half, Northern Ireland were awarded a contested penalty for a foul on the edge of the box – Corby saved but the ball went straight back to the penalty taker who scored at the second attempt.

The third was a breakaway, as England pushed forward and the hosts made it 3-0.

Garry Nelson was nominated England’s Man of the Match.

Our thanks to the match officials and to the New Forge Sports Centre for use of their facilities.

Congratulations to Northern Ireland who lift the Dennis Murphy Memorial Cup as winners of the inaugural Over 65’s Tri Nations Tournament. England came second having beaten Wales 1-0 and Wales won the wooden spoon.
