A 4-2 defeat for England Veterans’ Over 65’s ‘A’ team against Old Amersham Players Over 60’s on Wednesday 1st April in Chorleywood.

England took the opportunity to look at squad players and some new faces.

Amersham took the lead after 5 minutes after an error in England’s midfield. England hit the the bar and post and had a good shout for a penalty turned down but couldn’t find the equaliser. Amersham added a second after 22 minutes – a superb strike from thirty yards.

England started to get on top and Russell Lane stole the ball from a defender and reduced the deficit. 2-1 down at half time.

On the hour, Amersham increased their lead from the penalty spot – a harsh decision from England’s point of view. England had a penalty of their own on 75 minutes following a handball – Kenny Carlile netted.

Amersham secured the victory on 85 minutes. A terrible mishit clearance by the England keeper presented the forward with an empty net.

England unfortunately missed many chances and the Amersham keeper was easily the man of the match with some spectacular saves.

Many thanks to the match officials, St. Clements Danes School for use of their facilities and the Red Lion Public House for food and refreshments after the game.

The management now have difficult decisions, selecting the squad for the upcoming games in the Tri Nations Tournament against Wales and Northern Ireland.
