A dogged 1-0 victory for England Veterans’ Over 65’s against the Worcestershire Over 60’s representative team on Sunday 25th January in Droitwich Spa.

For the first 20 minutes Worcester were on top but England started pushing them back and defender Pete Browning went close with a header over the bar.

A couple more chances came England’s way before Steve Slater struck just before half time – the ball fell nicely for him after bouncing around in the goal area and he put England one up.

In the second half, England keeper Gary Corby was largely redundant.

The Worcester keeper made a great save from Ashley De Vera Davey and Bill Stewart pulled one wide on the hour after a solo run through the Worcester defence.

England had a few more half-chances in a very physical match against the younger team, with England resolute in midfield and very good at the back.

Our thanks to the match officials and to Worcestershire for hosting the match.
