70 Plus - World Cup

The 70 Plus World Cup has taken place annually since 2017. The first tournament was hosted in Japan and featured teams from Japan, USA and Denmark. A new 75 Plus division was introduced when Denmark hosted in 2022 and it marked the first participation of teams from England, Germany and Wales. Japan hosted again in 2025 and remarkedly an 80 Plus division was added to the competition.

England versus Wales

A special footballing relationship exists between England and Wales veterans’ football. It has existed ever since the first international fixtures contested between the Over 50’s and Over 55’s at Bisham Abbey, Buckinghamshire in June 2009.

The first Over 70’s game was in September 2021 at St. George’s Park, Staffordshire which England won 3-0. There have been matches home and away pretty much every year since. These matches are in addition to those played between the two countries in the World Cup, Nations Cup and other tournaments.

England and Wales Over 70’s contest the NHS Challenge Trophy – which was donated by England Manager Ken Pollock to celebrate the outstanding work carried out by the National Health Service during the COVID pandemic in both England and Wales. It also acts as a reminder of our aim to try and reduce the burden on the NHS by encouraging a fit and healthy life style and to improve the mental well being of our players and staff.
